The brand was founded in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, specifically in Cavezzo, which is part of the traditional production area for authentic balsamic vinegar. The product is manufactured in Italy, adhering to the Protected Geographical Indication (I.G.P.) regulations which ensure quality and authenticity by requiring the vinegar to be produced and matured in the province of Modena.

In 2015, the Mazzetti brand was acquired by Associated British Foods (ABF), a multinational food processing and retailing company. Today, Mazzetti operates as part of ABF's grocery division, while maintaining its traditional production methods in Italy.
