Control4 is a premier provider of automation and networking systems for homes and businesses. It was founded in 2003 by entrepreneurs Eric Smith, Will West, and Mark Morgan in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. The brand quickly became a leader in the smart home space by offering a unified operating system that integrates various smart devices—such as lighting, audio, video, climate control, and security—into a single, easy-to-use interface.
Control4 products are designed and engineered in the United States, but like many high-tech electronics companies, the physical manufacturing of its hardware is largely outsourced to facilities in China and other Asian manufacturing hubs. Over the years, the brand has expanded its ecosystem through significant mergers and acquisitions, such as acquiring Pakedge Device & Software and Triad Speakers.
In 2019, Control4 merged with SnapAV, a company owned by the private equity firm Hellman & Friedman. This merger formed Snap One, LLC. In 2024, Snap One was acquired by Resideo Technologies, Inc., a major global provider of security and home comfort solutions. Today, Control4 functions as a flagship brand under the Resideo umbrella, headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, continuing to drive innovation in the professional-install smart home market.
