Cuisinart is a legendary name in the American kitchen, famously credited with introducing the food processor to the U.S. market in the early 1970s. The brand was founded in 1971 by Carl Sontheimer, an MIT-educated physicist and avid cook, who was inspired by professional food preparation machines he encountered in France. After modifying a commercial design for home use, the first Cuisinart food processor debuted at a Chicago trade show in 1973, eventually gaining widespread popularity through the endorsement of culinary icons like Julia Child and James Beard.

While the brand holds deep American roots and remains headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, its manufacturing operations are global. Most of Cuisinart's small electric appliances, including its signature food processors and coffee makers, are manufactured in China. However, the company maintains high-end production lines elsewhere, such as the French Classic cookware collection, which is produced in France.

Ownership of the brand transitioned in 1989 when it was acquired by the Conair Corporation (now Conair LLC) following a period of financial restructuring. Since 2021, Conair itself has been majority-owned by American Securities, a private equity firm. Today, Cuisinart continues to be a market leader, expanding its portfolio to include everything from air fryers and blenders to outdoor grills and professional-grade cookware.
