Eni is a globally integrated energy company founded in Italy in 1953 by Enrico Mattei. Originally known as Ente Nazionale Idrocarburi, the company transitioned from a state-owned entity to a publicly traded corporation in the 1990s, although the Italian government maintains a significant minority stake.

Today, Eni operates across the entire energy supply chain, focusing on natural gas, oil, power generation, and increasingly, renewable energy and sustainable mobility through its Enilive and Plenitude subsidiaries. The brand's ultimate ownership resides with Eni S.p.A., headquartered in Rome. As a major player in the global energy transition, the company is committed to achieving carbon neutrality and has restructured its operations to emphasize circular economy principles and bio-based products.
