Bionade is a pioneering German organic soft drink and the first of its kind to be produced by the fermentation of water and malt. Originally created in 1994 in the town of Ostheim vor der Rhön, the brand revolutionised the market by offering an organic alternative to conventional carbonated beverages.

Manufacturing remains deeply rooted in its place of origin, with production occurring at the Bionade GmbH facilities in Germany. The brand emphasizes the use of organic ingredients and natural minerals from the Rhön Biosphere Reserve.

Historically, Bionade has seen shifts in corporate ownership. After being owned by the Radeberger Group (part of the Oetker Group) for several years, it was acquired by Hassia Gruppe in late 2017. As of 2026, it remains a flagship organic brand within the Hassia portfolio, maintaining its independence in production philosophy while benefiting from the distribution network of one of Germany's largest family-owned mineral water companies.
