The Dual 701 is a legendary high-fidelity record player, historically significant as the first German-made turntable to feature a brushless, direct-drive motor. It was manufactured during the 1970s, a period when the Dual brand was at its height as one of Europe's largest turntable producers. The unit's wood plinth and precision engineering have made it a staple for audiophiles and vintage electronics collectors.

Originally founded in the Black Forest region of Germany, the Brand's history is characterized by multiple ownership changes throughout the decades following the vinyl industry's decline and resurgence. While the mechanical heritage remains German, the modern management of the Dual brand has been split across different regions. Historically, it was a subsidiary of the Steidinger family businesses before passing through various corporate hands. Today, the trademark for Dual in Europe and other select regions is primarily managed under the DGC GmbH umbrella, maintaining the brand's association with its German roots.
