MG, originally standing for Morris Garages, is a historic automotive brand with roots dating back to the 1920s in the United Kingdom. Celebrated for its iconic sports cars and 'Brit Dynamic' engineering heritage, the brand underwent several ownership changes throughout the 20th century, passing through various British automotive conglomerates before being acquired by Nanjing Automobile Group in 2005.
In 2007, Nanjing Automobile Group merged with SAIC Motor Corporation, a move that brought MG under the umbrella of one of China's largest state-owned automotive manufacturers. Today, while the marque maintains an Advanced Design Studio in London and continues to leverage its British identity, the vast majority of its manufacturing and research and development occurs in China. The brand has successfully transitioned from traditional internal combustion engines to a global leader in electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles, utilizing SAIC's global supply chain and manufacturing facilities in Southeast Asia and South Asia to serve international markets.
