Philips is one of the world's most recognized brands, with a legacy rooted in the Netherlands. Originally founded in Eindhoven in 1891, the brand began by manufacturing carbon-filament lamps and quickly became one of the largest electronics companies globally. While traditionally associated with Koninklijke Philips N.V., the lighting division underwent a significant structural change in the late 2010s to focus on specialized markets.

Today, Philips branded lighting products—including the popular 'Philips Hue' smart home ecosystem—are managed and manufactured by Signify N.V. (formerly known as Philips Lighting). While the brand remains Dutch in origin and maintains its global headquarters in the Netherlands, manufacturing is highly diversified. Production occurs in various locations including Poland, Hungary, China, and Mexico to serve global demand. Ownership is now held by Signify under a long-term licensing agreement with the original Philips parent company.
