Apache Iceberg is an open-source high-performance table format for huge analytic datasets. It was originally developed at Netflix to solve data consistency and performance issues in their massive data lake, which relied on the Hive table format.
In 2018, Netflix donated the project to the Apache Software Foundation (ASF). As an open-source project under the Apache license, it is developed by a global community of contributors from various companies rather than being manufactured in a single location. It is managed by a Project Management Committee (PMC) within the ASF, ensuring that no single corporation has absolute control over its development trajectory.
