VMware vCenter Server

VMware vCenter Server is a centralized management platform for VMware vSphere environments, allowing IT administrators to manage virtualized infrastructure at scale. Originally developed as part of VMware's suite of virtualization products, it has become the industry standard for enterprise data center management.

The product traces its roots back to Palo Alto, California, where VMware was founded in 1998 by Diane Greene, Mendel Rosenblum, Scott Devine, Ellen Wang, and Edouard Bugnion. Over the decades, the brand has transitioned through several high-profile ownership changes, moving from an independent entity to being acquired by EMC Corporation, then becoming part of Dell Technologies following the Dell-EMC merger.

In November 2023, the brand underwent its most significant transformation when Broadcom Inc. completed a $61 billion acquisition of VMware. Under Broadcom's ownership, the product line has shifted toward a subscription-based model and has been integrated into Broadcom's broader portfolio of infrastructure software. While developed in the United States, its deployment and support are managed through Broadcom's global offices.
