Founded in 1899 in Herzebrock, Germany, by Carl Miele and Reinhard Zinkann, it has remained a family-owned company for over a century. The brand is synonymous with high-end engineering, often testing its appliances for a service life of up to 20 years.

While Miele maintains its primary manufacturing base in Germany (notably in Gütersloh and Bielefeld), it has expanded its production footprint. Specialized components and specific model ranges are also manufactured in Uničov (Czech Republic), Ksawerów (Poland), and Brașov (Romania). Despite this international reach, the 'Made in Germany' heritage remains a core part of its brand identity and premium positioning in the global market.

The company is currently managed by the fourth generation of the founding families. It remains independent of larger appliance conglomerates, allowing it to maintain a strict focus on durability and sustainable innovation, such as their TwinDos and PowerWash technologies featured in the Nova Edition series.
