Brand Evolution and Heritage

K-Swiss was founded in 1966 by two Swiss brothers, Art and Ernie Brunner, who moved to California to pursue their dream of creating a high-performance tennis shoe. Inspired by leather ski boots, they introduced the K-Swiss Classic, the first all-leather tennis shoe featuring a three-piece toe and D-ring lacing system. This design became an icon in both the sports world and casual fashion circles.

Global Manufacturing and Ownership

While the brand maintains its design and marketing headquarters in California, its manufacturing is distributed globally. Most K-Swiss products are produced in various Asian countries, including Vietnam, Indonesia, and China, which is standard for the athletic footwear industry.

In 2019, K-Swiss was acquired by Xtep International Holdings Limited, a major Chinese sportswear company. This acquisition integrated K-Swiss into a global portfolio alongside brands like Palladium and Saucony (through joint ventures), positioning the brand for significant expansion in the Asian market while maintaining its American heritage and classic identity.
