Velkopopovický Kozel Světlý beer

Velkopopovický Kozel is a traditional Czech lager brand with a rich history dating back to 1874. The brand was founded in the village of Velké Popovice by František Ringhoffer, and it is famously identified by its mascot, Olda the goat (Kozel means 'male goat' in Czech). The 'Světlý' variety pictured is a pale lager known for its smooth, easy-drinking profile and gold color.

While the heart of production remains at the original brewery in Velké Popovice near Prague, the brand's immense global popularity has led to licensed production in several other markets, including Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia. This ensures that the 'Authentic Czech Taste' mentioned on the can is available competitively across European and Asian markets.

Following a series of corporate acquisitions, the brand is currently under the ownership of Asahi Group Holdings, a major Japanese beverage conglomerate. Asahi acquired Pilsner Urquell and the associated Kozel brand from Anheuser-Busch InBev in 2017 as part of a divestment required by competition regulators. Today, Kozel stands as one of the most successful Czech beer exports globally.
