Rombat is the leading manufacturer of automotive lead-acid batteries in Romania. Founded in 1980 in Bistrița, the brand originally started as a state-owned enterprise known as Acumulatorul Bistrița during the Communist era. After the fall of the regime, it was privatized and rebranded as Rombat, eventually becoming the dominant player in the Romanian market and a major supplier for Dacia and Renault group vehicles.
In 2012, Rombat was acquired by the Metair Group, a South African international company specializing in automotive components. Since this acquisition, the brand has seen significant investment in its manufacturing facilities, allowing it to produce advanced Start-Stop and AGM batteries. Today, Rombat remains a crucial part of the European automotive supply chain, primarily manufacturing its products in Romania for distribution across Europe and North Africa.
