The service was originally developed by Danske Bank and introduced to the Danish market in 2013. In 2022, a major merger between MobilePay and the Norwegian payment giant Vipps took place, resulting in the formation of the Vipps MobilePay Group. This consolidation brought together the leading mobile payment brands of Denmark, Norway, and Finland (Pivo) under a single organizational umbrella. The platform's software development and infrastructure maintenance are primarily managed from its hubs in Copenhagen and Oslo, reflecting its strong Nordic heritage and current ownership structure.
