Originally patented in 1959 by Spica, an Italian ice cream manufacturer based in Naples, the brand revolutionized the frozen dairy market by introducing a process that insulated the cone from the wet ice cream, preventing it from becoming soggy during storage.

In 1976, the brand was acquired by Unilever, which successfully transformed Cornetto into a global powerhouse. Today, Cornetto is part of Unilever's massive ice cream portfolio, which operates under different local identities (such as Langnese in Germany, Wall's in the UK, and Algida in Italy). Manufacturing takes place in numerous facilities globally, including major plants in Italy, the United Kingdom, and Germany, to serve regional markets with local supply chains.
