Gerber Baby Food

Gerber is one of the most iconic brands in the baby food industry, with a history dating back to 1927 in Fremont, Michigan. The company was founded by Daniel Frank Gerber, who owned the Fremont Canning Company. The idea for the product line came from his wife, Dorothy Gerber, who began hand-straining fruits and vegetables for their daughter. Recognizing the labor-intensive nature of this task for parents everywhere, the Gerbers commercialized the process, launching their first nationwide products in 1928.

Today, Gerber is a leader in infant nutrition, offering a vast range of purees, snacks, and infant formulas. While it was a family-owned and later a publicly traded American company for many decades, it was acquired by the Swiss food and beverage giant Nestlé in 2007. This acquisition integrated Gerber into Nestlé’s global nutrition division, expanding its reach and research capabilities.

Manufacturing remains significant in the United States, particularly at its historic base in Fremont, Michigan, which continues to be a major production hub. However, as a global brand under Nestlé's stewardship, Gerber products are also manufactured in various international locations to serve local markets worldwide.
