Polk Audio loudspeakers and audio equipment

Polk Audio is an American manufacturer of audio products, best known for its home and automobile loudspeakers. The company was founded in 1972 by Matthew Polk, George Klopfer, and Sandy Gross in Baltimore, Maryland. They initially focused on high-fidelity home audio and became prominent for their 'Monitor Series' which established the brand as a leader in the audiophile market during the 1970s and 80s.

Over the decades, the brand's ownership has transitioned through several major corporations. In 2006, Polk Audio was acquired by Directed Electronics, Inc. (DEI Holdings). In 2017, DEI Holdings and its subsidiary brands, including Polk Audio and Definitive Technology, were acquired by Sound United LLC. More recently, in 2022, Sound United was acquired by Masimo Corporation, a global medical technology company seeking to expand its presence in consumer audio and wearable technology. While the engineering and design roots remain in the United States, large-scale manufacturing is primarily conducted in specialized facilities in China to meet global demand.
