Matilda Bay Fremantle Bitter is a heritage-style Australian ale with deep roots in the craft brewing revolution of Western Australia. Originally launched by the Matilda Bay Brewing Company, it was part of a movement that transformed the Australian beer landscape in the 1980s. The brand was famously founded in the Sail and Anchor Hotel in Fremantle, positioning it as one of Australia's first modern microbreweries.

Over the decades, the brand's ownership shifted as the craft beer market consolidated. Matilda Bay was eventually acquired by Carlton & United Breweries (CUB). Following a series of high-profile international acquisitions, CUB—and by extension the Matilda Bay brand—became part of the global portfolio of Anheuser-Busch InBev before being sold to the Japanese conglomerate Asahi Group Holdings. Today, while it retains its boutique Western Australian identity, it is part of one of the world's largest beverage networks.
