James Boag's Draught Beer

Boag's Draught is a classic Australian lager with a rich heritage originating in Tasmania. The brand was established in Launceston by James Boag and his son in the late 19th century, becoming a staple of the Tasmanian brewing industry. Over the decades, J. Boag & Son became known for using pure Tasmanian water and locally grown ingredients, which helped build its reputation for quality across the mainland and internationally.

In modern times, the ownership of the brand has transitioned through major corporate acquisitions. After being owned by San Miguel Corporation, the brewery was sold in 2007 to Lion, a major beverage company operating across Australia and New Zealand. Since then, the brand has been under the ultimate ownership of the Japanese multinational Kirin Holdings, which manages Lion as a key subsidiary in the Oceania region. The beer continues to be brewed primarily at the historic Esk Brewery in Launceston, Tasmania, maintaining its local production roots while operating under a global corporate structure.
