Uzi Submachine Gun

The Uzi is one of the world's most iconic submachine guns, characterized by its compact design and telescoping bolt. It was designed by Major Uziel Gal in the late 1940s following the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. The weapon was specifically created to provide a reliable, short-range firearm for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), capable of high rates of fire in confined spaces.

While originally manufactured by Israel Military Industries (IMI), production has spanned decades and borders. Beyond Israel, the Uzi has been licensed for manufacturing in several countries, including Belgium by FN Herstal and South Africa. Its distinctive silhouette and reputation for durability in harsh desert conditions made it a staple for military and law enforcement agencies globally throughout the late 20th century.

Today, the brand and manufacturing rights remain rooted in Israel. After the privatization of the small arms division of IMI, the production moved to Israel Weapon Industries (IWI). The Uzi remains a legendary name in firearms history, with various modern iterations like the Micro Uzi and Uzi Pro continuing the lineage for specialized security forces and civilian markets worldwide.
