Panadol is one of the world's most recognized over-the-counter analgesic brands, primarily known for its paracetamol-based (acetaminophen) formulations. The brand was originally developed and introduced by Frederick Stearns & Co., a company based in the United States, in 1955. Shortly after its inception, it was acquired by Sterling Drug, which helped expand its global footprint.
Over the decades, Panadol has undergone several ownership changes through major pharmaceutical mergers and acquisitions. For a long period, it was a flagship brand of SmithKline Beecham, which later merged to form GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). In 2022, GSK spun off its consumer healthcare division into a new, independent global company called Haleon. Today, Haleon is the ultimate owner of the brand, managing its distribution and marketing worldwide.
Manufacturing of Panadol takes place in numerous facilities globally to meet regional demand. Key production sites include Australia, Ireland, and various locations across Asia and South America. While the brand is available in over 80 countries, it is often marketed under different sub-labels such as Panadol Children, Panadol Extra, and Panadol Night to cater to specific consumer needs.
