Oboz Footwear is a premium outdoor footwear brand that has established a reputation for technical precision and comfort, particularly through its proprietary O FIT Insole® technology. The brand's name is a portmanteau of 'Outside' and 'Bozeman,' reflecting its roots in the rugged landscape of Montana where its products are designed and tested. Since its inception, Oboz has focused on the 'true to the trail' philosophy, emphasizing durability and support for hikers and backpackers.
While the brand was founded and is still based in the United States, its manufacturing operations are concentrated in Vietnam. This allows the brand to leverage specialized specialized footwear production facilities while maintaining strict quality control and sustainability standards. Oboz is also known for its environmental commitment, planting a tree for every pair of shoes sold through various reforestation partnerships.
In 2018, Oboz was acquired by the Kathmandu Group, a major outdoor retailer based in New Zealand. Following a corporate rebranding, the parent company is now known as KMD Brands Limited. As of 2026, KMD Brands continues to manage Oboz alongside other prominent outdoor labels like Kathmandu and Rip Curl, maintaining the brand's headquarters in Bozeman, Montana to preserve its authentic design heritage.
