TAROM, short for Transporturile Aeriene Române, is the flag carrier and the oldest currently operating airline in Romania. Founded in 1954, the company was established to serve as the national air transport service for both domestic and international routes. Over the decades, it has evolved into a symbol of Romanian aviation, headquartered at the Henri Coandă International Airport in Otopeni, near Bucharest.

As a state-owned enterprise, TAROM is primarily controlled by the Romanian Ministry of Transport. Throughout its history, the airline has remained an integral part of the nation's infrastructure, facilitating global connectivity and repatriation efforts. Despite several phases of restructuring and modernization to meet international standards, the brand's ultimate ownership remains firmly under the Romanian government.

The airline operates a diverse fleet of aircraft and is a member of the SkyTeam Alliance, which allows it to provide extensive global reach. While it faces competition from low-cost carriers and major international airlines, TAROM maintains its position as the designated national carrier of Romania, with its core operations and maintenance facilities centralized in its home country.
