eMAG is the leading South-Eastern European e-commerce platform, serving customers in Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria. Founded in 2001, it began as an online store specializing in computer systems and office equipment. Over the last two decades, it has evolved into a massive marketplace covering everything from consumer electronics and home appliances to toys and groceries through its multi-country digital infrastructure.

The company is a pioneer in the regional digital economy, introducing services like Genius (loyalty program) and a vast network of easybox lockers for efficient logistics. While it operates primarily as a digital service, its physical infrastructure—including massive automated distribution centers—is centered in Romania to support its cross-border operations in the Balkans and Central Europe.

Ownership of eMAG is a joint venture between the global consumer internet group Prosus (a subsidiary of the South African multinational Naspers) and Dante International. Prosus holds a majority stake, integrating eMAG into a global portfolio of technology and marketplace brands, while maintaining strong local leadership and operational heritage in Bucharest.
