OpenGeofiction

OpenGeofiction (OGF) is a unique collaborative world-building platform founded in 2014. It operates as a fictional geography project where users create and map a modern imaginary world using the OpenStreetMap (OSM) software stack. Unlike traditional products, it is a community-driven digital platform that allows for the creation of intricate cities, countries, and landscapes through a shared wiki and map interface.

The project is managed by a group of administrators who oversee various continental regions such as Antarephia, Tarephia, and Uletha. It is hosted on servers providing a sandbox for mappers to practice urban planning and geographic design. Because it relies on open-source software and a global user base, its 'manufacturing' is entirely digital and decentralized, though the primary infrastructure is maintained in the European Union.

Ownership of OpenGeofiction is community-based rather than corporate. The platform's direction and technical maintenance are handled by a dedicated volunteer admin team. While the technology is derived from the OpenStreetMap Foundation, OGF serves as an independent entity for creative and artistic simulation, fostering a global community of hobbyists and geography enthusiasts.
