Becel is a well-known brand of margarine and plant-based spreads with a legacy rooted in heart health. Originally developed in the 1960s by Unilever in the Netherlands following a request from doctors for a spread rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, the brand name is an acronym for 'Blood Cholesterol Lowering'.

In 2018, Unilever sold its spreads division to KKR, which formed a new independent company known as Upfield. Today, Upfield is the world's leading producer of plant-based spreads. While Becel has deep Dutch roots and is primarily manufactured in European facilities (such as in Pruszków, Poland, or Kleve, Germany) for the Benelux market, production occurs in multiple locations globally to serve various international markets.
