Glengettie is a celebrated Welsh tea brand that has been a staple in South Wales households since its introduction in 1952. Originally developed to complement the region's soft water, the blend comprises a specific mix of Kenyan and Assam teas, known for their brisk strength and rich color. For decades, it has been marketed as 'the tea for Wales,' featuring bilingual English and Welsh packaging.
The brand's lineage is tied to the historic Typhoo Tea portfolio. While it was long produced at the Moreton factory on the Wirral, manufacturing has recently shifted as the parent company restructured its operations. Today, Glengettie remains a culturally significant brand, maintaining its heritage as a local favorite while being part of a larger international investment group.
Ownership of Glengettie transitioned in 2021 from the Indian conglomerate Apeejay Surrendra Group to British private equity. This move was intended to revitalize the classic British tea brands under the Typhoo umbrella, ensuring that regional favorites like Glengettie continue to serve their dedicated consumer base.
