Sevylor is a historic name in the outdoor recreation industry, specifically recognized for pioneering the development of inflatable PVC watercraft. Originally founded in France in 1948 by Berco Grimbert, the brand initially specialized in PVC accessories such as bathtubs and electrical components before expanding into the globally recognized inflatable kayaks and boats that define the brand today. Its international success was cemented in the 1960s when it moved aggressively into the U.S. market, eventually becoming a staple for recreational lake and river enthusiasts.
Over the decades, the ownership of Sevylor has transitioned through several major corporate entities alongside the consolidation of the global sporting goods market. In 2005, the brand was acquired by Jarden Corporation as part of its Coleman Company acquisition. Jarden was subsequently acquired by Newell Brands in 2016. However, in 2023, Newell Brands completed the sale of several of its outdoor assets, leading to Sevylor’s current position within the portfolio of Exxel Outdoors. While the brand has French origins, manufacturing is now largely concentrated in Asia to serve global retail markets efficiently.
Today, Sevylor is celebrated for making water sports accessible to the general public. Their products, which range from the popular QuikPak solo kayaks to professional-grade fishing inflatables, are engineered for portable, high-denier PVC durability. The brand remains a key player in the outdoor leisure space, focusing on user-friendly designs that allow for easy transport and storage.
