Jaguar is a storied British luxury vehicle brand with a legacy dating back to the 1920s. Originally founded by Sir William Lyons as the Swallow Sidecar Company, the brand quickly transitioned into manufacturing high-performance luxury automobiles. Throughout the mid-20th century, Jaguar became synonymous with elegant design and sporting success, particularly with the iconic E-Type and victories at Le Mans.
Today, Jaguar operates as part of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), which underwent a significant branding transition to emphasize a 'House of Brands' strategy. While the soul of the brand remains British, its manufacturing footprint has expanded globally to meet modern demand. Key production remains centered in the United Kingdom (specifically the Solihull and Castle Bromwich plants), while additional assembly occurs in Graz, Austria (via Magna Steyr) for specific models like the I-PACE and E-PACE, as well as in Slovakia and China through joint ventures.
Since 2008, Jaguar has been owned by the Indian multinational conglomerate Tata Motors. Under Tata's ownership, Jaguar has pivoted toward electrification, aiming to transform into an all-electric luxury brand by the mid-2020s. This move represents a strategic shift from a high-volume premium manufacturer to a more exclusive, sustainable ultra-luxury automotive brand.
