Salomon is a globally recognized leader in outdoor sports equipment, particularly known for its technical footwear. Founded in 1947 in Annecy, France, by François Salomon and his son Georges, the brand initially specialized in ski edges and bindings. Over decades, it expanded into hiking and trail running gear, becoming a synonymous name for durability and performance in rugged environments.

While Salomon's heritage remains deeply rooted in the French Alps where its design and development take place at the Annecy Design Center, the physical manufacturing of their footwear is spread across multiple countries, primarily in Asia (including Vietnam, China, and Cambodia) to meet global demand.

In terms of corporate ownership, Salomon has transitioned through several major entities. It was acquired by Adidas in 1997, then sold to the Finnish group Amer Sports in 2005. Today, Amer Sports—and consequently Salomon—is owned by a consortium led by ANTA Sports, a major Chinese sportswear giant. Despite this ownership, Salomon maintains its brand identity and operational headquarters in France.
