Samsung was founded in 1938 by Lee Byung-chul as a trading company in South Korea. While it initially dealt in food processing and textiles, it expanded into the electronics industry in the late 1960s. Today, it is a global leader in technology, particularly known for its Galaxy line of smartphones, semiconductor chips, and home appliances.

Manufacturing for Samsung products is highly globalized. While the company closed its last smartphone factory in China in 2019, it has significantly expanded its operations in Vietnam, which now produces more than half of its flagship devices. It also maintains substantial manufacturing hubs in India and its home country of South Korea. The brand remains under the ultimate ownership of the Samsung Group, one of the world's most valuable conglomerates headquartered in Seoul.
