Zeiss Ikon Camera

Zeiss Ikon was a major German camera manufacturer formed in 1926 through the merger of several prominent camera makers, including Contessa-Nettel, Ernemann, Goerz, and Ica. Historically based in Dresden and Stuttgart, the brand became legendary for high-quality optics and precision engineering, particularly through its associations with Carl Zeiss lenses.

Following the division of Germany after World War II, the company was split between East and West German entities. The West German Zeiss Ikon AG eventually ceased camera production in the early 1970s. Today, the legendary 'Zeiss' brand is managed by Carl Zeiss AG, which focuses on optical systems, industrial metrology, and medical technology. While Zeiss Ikon as a camera manufacturing company no longer exists in its original form, the Zeiss brand remains global, often licensing its name for premium lenses in mobile devices and professional cinematography.
