Yoki is a foundational Brazilian food brand with a history rooted in the mid-20th century. It was originally established as an evolution of Kitano S/A, a company founded in 1960 by Japanese immigrant Yoshizo Kitano. After selling the Kitano brand name and several product lines in the late 1980s, the family launched Yoki in 1990—the name itself being an acronym of the founder's initials (Yoshizo Kitano). The brand quickly became a household staple in South America, known for its extensive range of popcorn, seasonings, farofas, and snack foods.
In 2012, Yoki Alimentos was acquired by the American multinational General Mills. Since then, the brand has operated as a key pillar of General Mills' Latin American business. While the brand is quintessentially Brazilian and maintains massive manufacturing and distribution operations within Brazil, its ownership lies with General Mills, headquartered in the United States. Today, Yoki remains a market leader in categories like microwave popcorn and side dishes, continuing to blend traditional Brazilian flavors with global corporate distribution networks.
