Freia is one of Norway's most iconic and beloved brands, deep-rooted in the country's national identity since its founding in the late 19th century. Known for its 'Et lite stykke Norge' (A little piece of Norway) slogan, the brand is synonymous with high-quality chocolate, particularly its signature Melkesjokolade. Most of Freia's chocolate production for the Norwegian market still takes place at the historic factory in Rodeløkka, Oslo, which has been operational for over a century.
Over the years, the brand transitioned from a family-owned Norwegian enterprise to part of a global confectionery portfolio. In the early 1990s, the company was acquired by the Scandinavian food conglomerate Marabou, which was subsequently absorbed by Kraft Foods. Today, Freia is owned by Mondelēz International, one of the world's largest snack companies. Despite this international ownership, the brand maintains its distinct Norwegian heritage and remains a dominant force in the Nordic confectionery market.
