Morton Salt is one of the most iconic American food brands, best known for its 'Umbrella Girl' logo and the slogan 'When It Rains It Pours.' The brand was originally founded in Chicago, Illinois, by Joy Morton in 1889. The company revolutionized home cooking by adding magnesium carbonate as an anti-caking agent, ensuring the salt would flow freely even in humid weather.

Over the decades, ownership of the brand has changed several times. It was acquired by Rohm and Haas in 1999, then by the German company K+S (Kali und Salz) in 2009. In 2021, Kissner Group Holdings, which was later integrated into Stone Canyon Industries Holdings (SCIH), acquired the business. As of 2024 and beyond, Morton Salt operates as part of the Stone Canyon Industries portfolio, maintaining its headquarters in Chicago while manufacturing salt across a network of mines and facilities throughout North America.
