Founded in 1907 by Christian Meldgaard Andersen, Sanita is one of the oldest and most respected manufacturers of clogs in the world. Originally established in Denmark, the brand became famous for its handcrafted wooden-soled footwear designed for comfort during long working hours. The brand's legacy is rooted in traditional Scandinavian craftsmanship, evolving from simple wooden clogs to modern, ergonomically designed professional footwear used extensively in the medical, hospitality, and service industries.

Today, while the brand maintains its Danish design heritage, the majority of its manufacturing takes place in its own factory in Poland, where artisans continue the tradition of handcrafted cobbling. This move allowed for increased production capacity while maintaining rigorous European quality standards. For several years, Sanita was actually the contract manufacturer for Dansko's professional clog line, which cemented their reputation for durability and anatomical support in the North American market.

Sanita is currently owned by the Sanita Footwear Group, which remains headquartered in Denmark. The company continues to focus on its 'Original' collection, emphasizing the same design principles that defined the brand over a century ago. Their products are recognized by the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) for promoting foot health, reflecting the brand's transition from a local workshop to a global leader in professional comfort footwear.
