Klymit was founded in 2007 in Kaysville, Utah, by Cory Tholl and a team of outdoor enthusiasts. The brand gained international recognition for its disruptive approach to sleeping pad design, specifically its patented 'Body Mapping' technology and V-chamber designs which optimize comfort while significantly reducing weight and pack size. Their innovative use of argon gas insulation in early products set a high bar for technical experimentation in the backcountry gear industry.
In 2021, Klymit was acquired by MacNeill Pride Group (now known as Gathr Outdoors), a diversified portfolio company focused on outdoor recreation brands. Gathr Outdoors is backed by the private equity firm Centre Partners. This acquisition integrated Klymit into a family of brands that includes GCI Outdoor, Cascadia Tents (CVT), and Rightline Gear, positioning it as a core pillar of a comprehensive outdoor equipment ecosystem. While the brand maintains its creative and engineering roots in Utah, it utilizes global manufacturing networks to scale its distribution to hikers and campers worldwide.
