Founded in 1975 by cousins Aloys Coppenrath and Alois Wiese, the company revolutionized the food industry by making high-quality, artisanal-style pastries available in the frozen section of supermarkets. Based in Mettingen, Westphalia, the brand became a household name across Europe, particularly known for its 'Conditorei' quality and traditional German recipes.

Historically a family-run enterprise, the company underwent a major ownership change in 2015. Following the passing of its founders, Coppenrath & Wiese was acquired by Dr. August Oetker KG, another historic German family business. This transition ensured that the brand remained under German ownership while benefiting from the logistical and financial strength of the Oetker Group. Today, the products are primarily manufactured at their large-scale, high-tech production facility in Mettingen, Germany, from where they are exported globally.
