Wainwright Golden Ale

Wainwright Golden Ale is a prominent British beer brand inspired by the legendary hill walker Alfred Wainwright, famous for his pictorial guides to the Lakeland Fells. The brand was originally developed by Thwaites Brewery in Blackburn to capture the refreshing and rewarding spirit of hiking in the Lake District.

Over the years, the brand transitioned from its regional roots to a national favorite. In 2015, the Wainwright brand was acquired by Marston's PLC as part of a significant portfolio expansion. However, in 2020, Marston's entered into a joint venture with the Carlsberg Group, leading to the formation of the Carlsberg Marston's Brewing Company.

In a definitive move in late 2024, Carlsberg Group announced the full acquisition of Marston's share in the joint venture, making Wainwright a fully-owned brand of the Danish brewing giant. Today, the beer continues to be brewed in the United Kingdom, maintaining its reputation as one of the UK's most popular golden ales while benefiting from the global distribution network of its ultimate owner, Carlsberg.
