Lyons Toffypops are a classic British snack featuring a shortcake biscuit filled with a layer of toffee and coated in chocolate-flavoured icing. The brand originally developed from the iconic J. Lyons & Co. conglomerate, which was a dominant force in the UK food industry throughout the 20th century.
Starting as a catering business in late 19th-century London, J. Lyons & Co. expanded into teashops and bakeries. The biscuit division was later reorganized under Symbol Biscuits before officially becoming Lyons Biscuits Ltd in 1990. In late 1994, the biscuit business was sold off during a period of corporate restructuring.
Today, the Lyons biscuit brand is owned by Burton's Biscuit Company, a major British manufacturer. Since 2021, Burton's Biscuit Company has been part of the Ferrero Group, the global confectionery giant based in Luxembourg/Italy. While the brand has historical roots in London and production legacy in locations like Blackpool, it continues to be a staple produced primarily within the United Kingdom for the European market.
