t-online is one of Germany's most prominent digital media brands, serving as a comprehensive web portal for news, entertainment, and email services. Originally launched in 1995 as the online service provider for Deutsche Telekom, it played a pivotal role in bringing the internet to the German mass market. Over the decades, it transitioned from a classic ISP portal into a standalone digital news and commerce platform.
In 2015, the brand underwent a significant structural change when Deutsche Telekom sold t-online to Ströer SE & Co. KGaA, a leading German advertising company. Under Ströer's ownership, t-online has focused heavily on digital journalism and advertising technology. While the 't-' prefix remains a legacy of its Telekom origin, the brand is now an independent media entity headquartered in Berlin, with its technical and editorial operations primarily based within Germany.
