Häagen-Dazs is a renowned premium ice cream brand that was originally established in the Bronx, New York, in 1960. Despite its Scandinavian-sounding name, which was invented to convey an aura of old-world craftsmanship, the brand is purely American in origin. It has since grown into a global icon for luxury frozen desserts.

The manufacturing of Häagen-Dazs products is distributed globally to serve different markets. For the European market, including the Netherlands, many products are produced in Tilloy-lès-Mofflaines, France. The ownership structure is unique due to a joint venture; while General Mills owns the brand globally, the rights to produce and market the brand in the United States and Canada are licensed to Froneri, a joint venture between Nestlé and PAI Partners.
