Bruna is a well-established Dutch retail chain that specializes in books, magazines, stationery, greeting cards, and office supplies. Founded in 1868 by Albert Willem Bruna, the company began as a small bookstore in Haarlem and grew into one of the most recognizable retail brands in the Netherlands, often operating through a large network of franchised locations.
Over the decades, the brand's ownership has transitioned through several major corporations. After long periods of ownership by the PostNL and ING Group (under their joint venture), the company was eventually acquired by the VBK Uitgeversgroep. Today, Bruna is part of the Audax Groep, a large commercial umbrella that manages several retail and media interests. While the products sold within Bruna—ranging from private label stationery to third-party books—are manufactured globally, the brand remains centrally managed from its headquarters in the Netherlands.
