De Vergulde Hand is one of the world's oldest shaving brands, with its history tracing back to 1554 in Amsterdam, making it older than the United States. The brand's identity is rooted in a legend involving a guild house or farm in Vlaardingen, where a golden hand relief was used to commemorate a historic event. It was the first officially registered brand in the Netherlands.

Today, the brand is owned by Bolton Group, an international corporation that acquired the Dutch company Biotex/Vroom & Dreesmann interests that previously managed the brand. Most of the production remains centered in the Netherlands, maintaining its heritage as a staple of Dutch grooming tradition. The products are widely recognized for their high-quality soap formulas and classic scents, which have remained relatively consistent for centuries.
