Rossum, originally known as Elis (Electronic Ledger Information System), is a leading artificial Intelligence platform specialized in document processing. The brand was founded in Prague, Czech Republic, by three AI researchers who sought to eliminate the need for manual data entry using advanced computer vision and neural networks.
The product is developed primarily in its headquarters in Prague, although the company maintains a global presence with significant operations in the United States and the United Kingdom. Over the years, the brand transitioned from its original project name, Elis, to the commercial name Rossum—a tribute to the play 'R.U.R.' (Rossum's Universal Robots) by Czech writer Karel Čapek, which introduced the word 'robot' to the world.
Today, Rossum is a late-stage venture-backed company that remains an independent entity. It is owned by its founders and a consortium of global venture capital firms, including General Catalyst, LocalGlobe, and Seedcamp. The platform continues to be at the forefront of the IDP market, focusing on hyper-automation for enterprise financial operations.
