Becel Vlees & Jus

Becel is a widely recognized brand in the heart-health segment, specifically known for its spreads and cooking products enriched with Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. The brand was originally developed by Unilever in the 1960s after medical requests for a healthier alternative to butter. The name 'Becel' is derived from the acronym 'BCL' (Blood Cholesterol Lowering).

In 2018, Unilever sold its entire spreads division to the American private equity firm KKR, which established a new standalone company called Upfield to manage these brands. Today, Becel (known as Flora in some markets) is produced by Upfield, which is headquartered in Amsterdam. While production occurs multiple sites to serve different European markets, a significant portion of the liquid and spreadable products for the Benelux region is manufactured in the Netherlands.
