Safcol (South Australian Fishermen's Co-operative Limited) was originally established in South Australia in 1945 as a fishing cooperative designed to help local fishermen market their catch. Over the decades, it evolved from a local cooperative into a major global seafood player, renowned for its commitment to responsibly sourced and high-quality canned products.
While the brand maintains deep roots in Australia, its manufacturing operations are now global. Most of its canned salmon and tuna products are processed in Thailand, which is a global hub for seafood canning, though sourcing of the raw fish depends on the specific species and season. In 1991, Safcol was acquired by the Tropical Food and Functional Food (TFFF) group, which is currently headquartered in Thailand. This ownership has allowed Safcol to leverage extensive Southeast Asian production networks while maintaining its presence in the Australian and international markets.
