Morton Salt is one of the most iconic brands in the United States, famous for its 'Umbrella Girl' logo and the slogan 'When It Rains It Pours.' The brand traces its roots back to 1848 in Chicago, Illinois. It was eventually incorporated in 1889 by Joy Morton, the son of the founder of Arbor Day. The company revolutionized the industry by adding magnesium carbonate as an anti-caking agent, which allowed salt to flow freely even in damp weather, a major technological leap at the time.

Today, Morton Salt operates various production facilities across North America. Much of its salt is harvested through solar evaporation in locations like Inagua in the Bahamas or through vacuum evaporation and mining in several U.S. states and Canada. This wide-reaching supply chain ensures its products remain a staple in both residential kitchens and industrial applications globally.

In terms of corporate ownership, the brand has transitioned through several major entities. After being owned by companies such as Rohm and Haas and later the German salt giant K+S AG, it was acquired in 2021 by Stone Canyon Industries Holdings. The brand now operates as a core part of the Morton Salt, Inc. and Kissner Group Holdings umbrella, maintaining its status as a quintessential American salt producer while under private equity management.
