FED 5 camera

The FED 5 is a vintage 35mm rangefinder camera that was manufactured from 1977 until 1996. It was produced by the FED Factory (Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinsky) located in Kharkiv, in what was then the Ukrainian SSR of the Soviet Union.

Originally established as a labor commune in the late 1920s, the FED factory became famous for producing high-quality Leica copies before evolving into its own distinctive industrial designs. The FED 5 represented one of the final iterations of the series, featuring a built-in selenium light meter and a rugged, industrial aesthetic. Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the factory transitioned into aerospace and engineering, and as of today, the brand is no longer active in the consumer photography market, remaining primarily a collector's item of historical Soviet engineering.
